Getting your game back on a new device
Tangent is a one-time purchase tied to the Apple Account that bought it. To install it again, open the App Store, go to your account, and re-download it from your purchase history. There is nothing to restore inside the app, because there are no in-app purchases.
What happens to my progress
Progress is stored on your device. Seals, saved formulas and settings live in the app's own storage, so deleting the app removes them. Progress does not currently sync between devices.
I am stuck on a level
Every level has three hints. The lamp in the top bar brightens when the next one is available - after a few shots, or after a minute or two of thinking. The third hint always gives you a formula that works, so no level can be a dead end. Taking a hint only costs the Insight seal; it never blocks progress.
A formula is rejected before it fires
The launcher is a rail on the left wall, and the shot has to begin somewhere on it. If your expression is undefined at x 0, or starts above y 9 or below y −9, the shot is refused with an explanation instead of failing silently. Lower the constant at the end of your expression and try again.
Reset everything
Settings has Reset all progress. It erases every seal, every saved formula, and returns you to the first level. It asks for confirmation and cannot be undone.
Reporting a problem
If something is wrong, it helps enormously to know: your device model, your iOS version, the app version from the bottom of Settings, the level number, and the exact formula you typed. Nothing you write in the game is ever sent anywhere, so we cannot see it unless you tell us.
